East Austin Studio Tour promises to deliver

east 8thThis weekend kicks off the 2009 East Austin Studio Tour (E.A.S.T.). In its 8th year, the tour spans two weekends, giving art enthusiasts ample time to hit as many studios, exhibitions and happenings as they can squeeze into the nine days between Nov. 14- Nov. 22. With the opportunity to visit over 150 artist studios this year, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. We'll narrow it down for you with a few of our favorites. For more info on all the artists and events at this year's tour check here: http://eastaustinstudiotour.com

In our opinion, here are the must-see studios. Make it a point to visit and you won't leave disappointed.

These guys love what they do and it shows. Check out their studio this weekend and see designs for the likes of Bon Iver, Lyle Lovett and Modest Mouse. Word on the street: They're planning an even bigger event than last year.It would be wise to check it out.

A new edition to Flatbed by Sterling Allen, Untitled

It might take you a while to go through the 18,000 sq. ft wearhouse that is Flatbed World Headquarters. Flatbed Press not only houses the work of over 60 artists in its own galleries, but is home to UT- Austin's Creative Research Laboratory and several independent artist studios. They collaborate with artists to produce limited editions of original etchings, woodcuts and monoprints. The time you spend here will be worth it. Plan around this schedule:

Creative Research Lab open 11/17- 11/21 from noon-5 p.m. Flatbed Press open normal hours.

For E.A.S.T. 2009, Monofonus Press has taken their innovativeness to a whole new level. Yes, they house a variety of artists including musicians, photographers, sculptors, muralists, writers and painters in their studio. They make great efforts to give local artists the chance to cross their chosen mediums to create one-of-a-kind products. And this year, the collaboration of Drew Liverman, Max Juren, Matt Rebholz and Ed Davis has created a gigantic interactive blacklight pinball game. When you're finished playing pinball, check out the plethora of unique videos, art and even... pickles... on display.
